Love from our happy bunch of Cuckooers

“Our work requires ability to concentrate for several hours and that’s why for example the mindfulnessbreaks in Cuckoo have been very good for our employees.”

”This whole concept is just awesome! This REALLY WORKS! You really feel motivated to take breaks because you want to collect those points! The adult mind works like a child sometimes… Thank you!”

“I started to use Cuckoo a little reluctantly (western nonsense I thought), but this is just brilliant; the breaks are short and compact enough that you can take them as an everyday routine, but still they give you a lot of energy!”

From a test run to a source of happiness and delight for the entire organization

Accounting firm Rantalainen has been using Cuckoo since 2015. Initially, Cuckoo was tested by introducing it to only a part of the organization. According to Chief Human Resources Officer Noora Jalkanen, the pilot in different departments of the organization worked well because it created anticipation and demand in other teams. When Cuckoo was then launched throughout the entire organization in the spring of 2021, the reception was very enthusiastic! Today, a large portion of Rantalainen’s 1100-person organization – about 700 people – are active Cuckoo users.

The secret behind large user numbers

Rolling out new services can be challenging, but Rantalainen’s customer manager Laura Iivonen highlights three important factors that have helped to create enthusiasm for using Cuckoo and motivated people to do so. Firstly, Laura believes that keeping breaks while encouraging active internal communication plays a big role. Cuckoo, for example, is integrated as part of new employee orientation.

As the third way of activating, Laura mentions regularly holding Cuckoo activity competitions. A small competition and cool prizes increase Cuckoo users and also do great for team well-being. Pirita Lamberg, who works with international customers, supports the idea that competition is a good way to motivate especially those whose usage of cuckoo has otherwise been lower to take breaks again. Pirita herself acknowledges being competitive and also motivated by Cuckoo’s other game-like features such as collecting points.

Activities competitions are very popular. A small playful competition always brightens the mood.

More than just a break workout

Operational Director Risto Iivonen has been involved in bringing Cuckoo to Rantalainen from the beginning. “Initially it started as a micro break workout, but over the years it has added more elements – elements that increase the well-being of the staff on a large scale,” Risto states. HR specialist Juuso Siltakorpi adds that Rantalainen indeed uses Cuckoo’s features in a diverse way. In addition to break workout videos, active use includes mindfulness videos and activities such as active commuting and choosing the stairs.

From the diverse usage, diverse benefits have been noticed as well. According to Risto, the most important benefit that Cuckoo brings is that it increases well-being, commitment, and smiling faces at Rantalainen. “Cuckoo is a great tool for taking breaks during the work day. It allows you to add exercise, workout moments and improve blood circulation during the day,” Juuso supports. Payroll specialist Max Lindholm has also noticed that Cuckoo supports the work capacity and the ability to work by improving concentration and bringing a boost to the day.

The best motivation to use Cuckoo is always the feeling after a Cuckoo break, when a small break brings so much energy that you can hardly believe it.

Laughter together brings together

Cuckoo has become an important part of Rantalainen’s corporate culture and a factor that increases the community spirit of the work community. Pirita Lamberg actively organizes joint Cuckoo breaks. Especially during the remote work period, breaks held through Teams were particularly popular – social pressure works as a good motivation for many to take breaks. Pirita also thinks it is great that these breaks bring together people who otherwise would not have met remotely.

Max Lindholm’s team takes joint Cuckoo breaks both in the office and remotely. The schedule is rotating, and the person on duty gets to choose their favorite song from Spotify, to the rhythm of which Cuckoo movements are shot. “Small dance moments with Cuckoo and colleagues to the rhythm of music is definitely the best motivation to add exercise to the workday,” Max states.

I think the biggest value is the simple and easy use of the app as well as the positive impact it has on the well-being of the whole organization.
